Resilience. We live in an world which is unpredictable, uncontrollable and overloads us on a daily basis – and this is our normal.
We feel stressed when we evaluate our environmental demands and this creates uncertainty.
When we feel uncertain, we feel vulnerable.
When we are emotionally-exposed, we become anxious.
The good news is, as author, philosopher and researcher of vulnerability, Brené Brown puts it, “vulnerability is not a weakness, it is our greatest measure of courage”.
The concept of this game encourages both vulnerability and courage. It is an invitation to tap into the unpredictability and uncontrollability life’s situations can throw us, lean into them and become curious, courageous and comfortable.
How? Through realising our character strengths. The active awareness and utilisation of our unique, innate character strengths can develop coping mechanisms which can buffer against life’s adversities. Building such a repertoire creates the desire to overcome challenges, explore new things and express creativity – all things this game is designed to achieve.
Author Sarah Wilson in her book This one wild and precious life, talks about resilience in children and adults alike in today’s age, “kids don’t just lack resilience for dealing with anxiety, they are not building the resilience to cope with everyday life. This means when stress builds, they are an open wound with no ability to form a scab – and sadly, it’s not just kids, it’s us too”.
This is a game-based intervention program to invite uncertainty and curiosity to the stage with your character strengths as the main actors, to build resilience in a fun and playful way.
As Rosa Parks, American Activist once famously said, “Knowing what must be done, does away with fear”. So enjoy a process of knowing how to use our strengths to deal with adversities and say goodbye to uncertainty and fear.
You’re looking out at the ocean. On the surface, it may appear tranquil and simple. Yet, once you submerge, you start to venture deeper and encounter different layers. In the depths are 80% of all marine life. Just like the ocean, we present surface-level traits. Diving into our minds, we find a beautiful array of values, innate traits and strengths which are otherwise unconscious and rarely breach to the surface for us, or others, to see.
This is a card game where you can dive in to a deep-sea exploration of yourself to uncover, identify and nurture the myriad of strengths and traits we all have but often don’t know how to use.
Seascape of Self aims to create an empowering experience by matching strengths, traits and values with real-life scenarios and situations that often leave us feeling vulnerable, uncomfortable or unsure.
As you play the game, you'll match strengths cards with situation cards to learn about yourself and better yet, get comfortable with the uncomfortable - using your very own unique traits and way of being!
